YLE2019 STRENGTHENING YOUTH LEADERSHIP AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

UNIVERSITI Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) in collaboration with the Sarawak Bumiputera Children's Fund (TEGAS) has taken the initiative to assist Bintulu local youth in empowering the national human capital development plan by conducting a program that focuses on leadership and entrepreneurship.

The plan is also in line with the Sarawak government's desire to develop digital economy and local social development.

The smart partnership between UPMKB and TEGAS is also supported by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) which has also designed long-term projects in developing local youth knowledge and skills.

The partnership comprised of industrial networking and intellectual transformation was founded by the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, UPMKB, Assoc Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini and Senior Manager of Digital-TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub Sarawak, Manzoor Hayat Khan, in December 2018.

One of the programs that was held was 'Youth Leadership & Entrepreneurship 2019' also known as YLE2019. This global leadership oriented program and digital entrepreneurship was designed by UPMKB and TEGAS as a local youth development module.

According to one of the co-ordinator and co-advisor leader, Mr. Fakhzan Buang, YLE2018 is seen as an effort to give local students and youths a chance to get professional training in leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

The project, divided into three phases, will be carried out this year to help young entrepreneurs become skillful and innovative.

For the first series, the YLE2019 program was held for two days on 26-27 January 2019 at SMA-TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub, Naim Street Mall, Bintulu Paragon. A total of 60 participants comprising UPMKB students, Bintulu MARA Skills Institute (BIN), Bintulu Vocational College, Advanced Technology Training Center (ADTEC) Bintulu and several local youths were involved in the program.

The program involved several training slots and skills that were delivered by several experts from UPMKB and also the founder of All Aboard Young Leaders Center Miri.

Some of the first series of training modules that have been given to participants are 'Leadership in Challenging Era: Think and Act Like a Super Leader', 'Innovation Thinking: Toward Digital Era', 'Cash Management: The Numbers Count', 'Professional Resume: Market Your Image Professionally 'and' Lead Like an Entrepreneur '.

The next series is expected to be held in mid-year, extending from the first series of training and workshops.

The YLE 2019 Series 1 program has been concludes with a closing speech from Chief Operating Officer TEGAS Awangku Ngali Mohamed who advised young people to strive to become a leader of caliber and productive digital entrepreneurs.

He also added that the YLE2019 project focuses primarily on the development of digital economy, human capital transformation, e-entrepreneurship, lifelong education and social development that can have a great impact on the self development and economic development of local and Sarawakians especially.

It is hoped that this opportunity will allow the younger generation to become more capable as a global leader thus helping the country in the development of the digital era.
