Two innovations from UPMKB led by Prof. Dr. Osumanu Haruna Ahmed and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini have won the gold award for their innovation research project at the International Higher Education Institutions Conference and Expo 2019 (Creator2019). Prof. Osumanu fashioned the 'Soil and Crop Productivity Management' innovation, while Prof. Madya Dr. Shahrul devised the 'Sago Prebiotic' innovation.

In total, UPM submitted 20 research innovations, 11 of which have won gold. Creator2019 (Pencipta2019) is a biennial event organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia to highlight research innovations conducted by all higher learning institutions. This year, the event was hosted by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).
